A Message from the Heart: Seeking a Living Kidney Donor

Hi everyone, my name is Joe and I live in Port Washington, New York. I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but life has a way of humbling us and teaching us how we deeply depend on one another. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease. This past year, I’ve spent more time in and out of the hospital, and dialysis has become a regular part of my life. It’s keeping me going, but it’s so physically taxing on my body. My health has reached the point where I now need a kidney transplant as soon as possible.

I am a husband, father, and new grandfather of two. I want to be here to watch them grow up and be a part of their lives.

A living kidney donor could give me that chance — a second chance at life, love, and time with the people who mean everything to me.

I am currently on the New York State Kidney Transplant List of over 100,000 recipients in need. The average time spent on this list before receiving a viable kidney is 5-7 years. This great ask is not easy to put into words — but sometimes life asks us to lean on the kindness of others.

If you feel led to learn more about becoming a living donor or have questions, please use the contact information below for my transplant team and mention that you are inquiring about my case, Joseph Spagna. You can also reach out to me personally.

By sharing my story to your group of family and friends, you help to increase the number of people who may consider kidney donation. Even if you aren’t able to donate, your prayers, love, and support mean the world.

With sincere gratitude,

Joe
